'#traditional #gowdafood #bangalore new gowda cuisine eatery, vegetarian thali, non veg meal, nalli fry, ragi mudde, kheema unde curry, mutton peas pulav, kaal soup, boti gojju, chicken tava roast, small business A sudden loss of occupation forced Hemanth Kumar to deploy his life savings and rustle up an eatery to support his family. Seeing her husband struggle, Nalini gave up her teaching job to support him in this enterprise that aspires to serve homestyle Gowda food. I visited Ganga’s Mudde Mane one afternoon to meet and motivate the brave couple, and along the way tasted an elaborate spread. Hope you enjoy this episode; take care, stay safe and happy eating! Kaal Soup An aromatic soup that serves well to whet your palate. The tomato conveys a pulpy texture laden with the meaty broth. Rs. 40 (usd 0.6) 8/10 Brain Fry Flavoured with the lightest touch of spice, pepper and curry leaves, the ‘bheja’ is cooked to perfection and melts in its rich buttery lushness when placed in the mouth. If you love the brain, a must-order here! Rs. 150 (usd 2.1) 10/10 Chicken Tava Roast Marinated in a green chilli, ginger garlic paste, it is the freshness of the mint that shines through the masala. I found the chicken a tad chewy. Rs. 190 (usd 2.6) 7.5/10 Boti Kal Goju A thick preparation enlivened with the starchiness of raw banana and nourishment of lentils, the boti is cooked through well. Rs. 170 (usd 2.3) 8/10 Mutton Kheema Ball Curry The kheema unde is rich in its meatiness and is complemented by the green chilli and coriander. Eat this hot to prevent the gram flour, used to bind the meat, from making its presence felt on the palate. Rs. 180 (usd 2.5) 7.5/10 Chicken Kheema Goju Tiny cubes of chicken tossed in a tasty masala. What makes this dish interesting are flecks of yam that bring its earthy flavours. Rs. 150 (usd 2.1) 7/10 Nalli Fry A weighty lamb shank, some of the meat has a bit of a bite, but as you work your way to the core of the nalli, the meat is tender. There is depth of flavour from the spices and the pepper. Rs. 380 (usd 5.2) for two large pieces, the price for this varies by weight. 9/10 Veg Meals A vegetarian will enjoy this simple but homely assemblage with as much gusto as a non vegetarian. From the scrumptious dill fritters to the comforting sprouts saaru and rasam, each dish bears the mark of a talented home cook, in this case, Nalini Hemant Kumar. I would happily order this with a non-vegetarian side. Rs. 80 (usd 1.1) 8/10 Mutton Peas Pulav Made three days a week, this is a pulao that is moist, gentle and aromatic. The aroma of the whole spices is what one tastes on the palate alongside the faint warmth of green chillies whose heat has been toned down by some coconut milk that goes into the pulao just before it is placed on dum. The meat in the pulao is soft and has a bit of fat ribboned through it, the peas are endearing in their soft bite.
